Letters to Self: Love and Love of Self

Letters to Self is a Self-help series written by M. J. Joachim, designed to encourage and promote healing and self-awareness for those who read it.

Dear Self,

Love is truly the answer. We were born into this world from the love that created us. We will depart from this world, through the love that embraces us in the next phase on our journey.

Only you can determine the power of love in your own life. You can give it all the power it deserves, or protect yourself from it, like a paranoid fiend, driving it all away. There is nothing to be paranoid or afraid of when it comes to true love.

Whether that love is from a parent, sibling, friend or stranger, true love makes all the difference. People are drawn to loving connections with each other. Everyone needs and deserves compassion from their fellow man.

It starts with you, and I’m not talking about conceited, self-centeredness. I’m talking about unselfish love, the kind that would go to any lengths to give you what’s best in life. Again, I’m not speaking of shallow, meaningless, objectified love.

Love is a basic human need, one all of us should give to ourselves. Acceptance, compassion, forgiveness, kindness all require the elements of love. Have a little faith, hope and charity. Give yourself these gifts, so you can share your love with others.

Love,

Self
