Letters to Self: Regarding Alcohol and Abuse

Letters to Self is a Self-help series written by M. J. Joachim, designed to encourage and promote healing and self-awareness for those who read it.

Dear Self,

Alcohol and abuse often played such a huge part in your life. Memories can be painful, and it’s okay. Accepting these moments as threads in the canvas of who you are and what you have become is important.

Take caution in letting them define you as a person though; try not to let them control your world, emotions and reactions. And avoid using them as excuses to distance yourself from others. Difficult pasts are not a reason to hide from the world.

It’s true, alcohol and abuse are the source of many of your nightmares. Only you can stop those nightmares, dear friend. You’ve been doing so all along anyway. Keep up the good work and be good to yourself and your family.

Love,

Self
